• Appointments Required: Notary services are available by appointment only.

• Fees: $2.50 per signature for non-Totowa residents.

• Identification: Valid, government-issued photo ID is required.

• Document Limit: Maximum of three documents per person per day.

• Signing Requirements: Documents must not be signed beforehand; all signatures must occur in the presence of the Notary.

• Witness Requirements: The Library does not provide witnesses. Witnesses cannot be solicited from patrons and must personally know the signer and show valid ID.

• Communication Requirement: Translators may not be used; direct communication with the Notary is required.

• Language Limitation: Documents must be in English.

The Library does not notarize:

• Deeds

• Living Wills / Living Trusts

• Codicils

• Depositions

• Mortgages or real estate closing documents

• Documents issued by foreign countries

• Immigration documents (including U.S. forms)

• Certified copies of vital records (birth, marriage, death certificates)

The Notary may refuse service if any concerns arise regarding authenticity, ambiguity, doubt, or uncertainty. This decision is at the sole discretion of the Notary.
